The work "2 minutes 2 midnight" deals with civil protection in Germany at the state and private levels. Most citizens trust the state. It regularly takes measures and exercises for crisis and disaster preparedness. Conceivable scenarios are run through. Defense against possible terrorist attacks and dealing with the forms and causes of terror also play a major role. The fear of terror is widespread, although the total number of attacks across Europe has decreased since the 1970s. At the same time, right-wing parties are successful in Europe and society is becoming more and more divided. The influx of refugees since 2015 and the associated immigration policy as well as the position of Islam in Europe became the subject of intense, sometimes violent political disputes. Some even consider civil war to be possible while a third of Germans, according to a „Forsa“-survey, believe it is possible that there will be a military conflict between NATO and Russia in the near future.
With this in mind, we have, in recent years, also dealt with people who privately prepare for crises and disasters: Through storage of food supplies, the holding of weapons, tools and other things. Private individuals organize anti-terrorist trainings and suvival camps, where you can learn to struggle in the woods for weeks. Our work mixes aspects of disaster and crisis preparedness, in the private and public sector. We want to show a part of our society that already has been a phenomenon long before Corona.
